So, this is a question i pose for you fellow Newsvine people..."Is Anti-Semitism a prevalent attitude in our collective societies, including on social news sites and blogs?".
Think carefully and honestly on this topic before you answer. The Ottawa Protocol outlines some compelling means by which clear antisemitism can be identified. It seems to me that anti-Israel sentiment is definitely in evidence, here and elsewhere, and while simple disagreement with Israeli policies doesnt make one an Anti-Semite, the line between the two is very narrow. One easily bleeds into the other, and in many cases, the difference is not apparent. I will outline some of the clear signs of antisemitism that i have witnessed repeatedly, both here, on television, in newspapers, etc...:
Calling for, aiding, or justifying the killing or harming of Jews in the name of radical ideology or an extremist view of religion
Accusing Jews as a people of being responsible for real or imagined wrongdoing committed by a single Jewish person or group, or even for acts committed by non-Jews. This one is particularly prevalent, and in evidence everywhere.
Applying double standards by requiring of it behaviour not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation This one is also appallingly commonplace
Holding Jews collectively responsible for actions of the State of Israel By far the most common.
Do you find these or other examples of antisemitism here on Newsvine? Perhaps on MSNBC or Fox News? In the Daily Cos? Elsewhere? Do you feel Obama is or isnt at least complicit in the furthering of antisemitism, or do you believe he is an opponent of such? Or do you think it doesnt exist? Or, do you agree with anti Semitic sentiment? Do you have ideas as to the hows or why's behind current anti Jewish sentiment?
This is your opportunity to speak your mind in an honest, intellectual manner. It would be preferable to cite specific examples to support any claims you might make. I will accept proper debate and civil discourse. I expect you to comply with the CoH.
